So I’ve been at a hockey game for the past few seasons. A certain player is on fire this year. Everyone is talking about him as if he’s a big deal. I thought it was funny, but I couldn’t agree more with the players when they said he was one of the most emotional players they have ever seen, and has been for quite a while.
For years he was a solid player with good hockey sense. But he has played for a decade of teams that didnt make playoffs like he expected before this year. He is now the number one point scorer in the team. The only player on the team that doesnt care is coach Kostka, because he is the only player who isnt happy about him being the number one scoring forward, and the only one who doesnt care whether or not he gets a new contract because hes just a player.
The most amusing hockey quote I’ve seen recently is this from a guy who plays for the New Jersey Devils: “I think I’m the best skater in the league. I think I’m better than everybody else. I think I have more skill than everyone else. I think I’m top 10. I think I’m top 10.
Another great quote is from a player who plays for the Columbus Blue Jackets. As he says, “You know, I think I’m the best hockey player in the world, but I’m not playing for this team anymore. I just want to play for myself.

And you can make a case for the team being the best in the league, but if you think they are, they dont really understand what it means to be a hockey player. Because its not like they can just show up in a city and play hockey until they die. Not to mention, its not like they dont know what a hockey game is.

The key is that you are part of something bigger than yourself. In hockey, you are paid, but you are not really in the game, you are just something that happens to be there and plays the game.
